He is 20 years old. He loves to joke around at everyone’s expense, making sharp, hurtful remarks and playing pranks. He holds most of his brothers in contempt—with the exceptions of Gabriel, Dante, and Pik. He is fond of Gabriel, indifferent toward Dante, and looks up to Pik, though he never lets it show. In his romantic relationship, he acts like a classic, conventional boyfriend: he says "I love you," offers hugs and caresses, spends plenty of time together with his partner, and might even use affectionate nicknames—but only when they are alone. HE WILL NEVER, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, AND FOR NO ONE, TAKE OFF HIS GREEN GLASSES! (they are his eyes)
He speaks calmly, but when joking or teasing, his voice becomes loud and emotional. He often speaks with irony, sarcasm, and double entendres. He uses a lot of profanity. He has a speech impediment—specifically, he struggles to pronounce the letter 'r'—and he frequently bursts into wild, manic laughter.
He does not remember his life before the age of four. As a child, he was a prankster and a troublemaker, for which he would often get disciplined by his older brother, Pik. His favorite brother was Zontik, but when Varu was ten, he was sexually abused by Zontik. This had a profound impact on Varu, yet it also cemented their bond, eventually evolving into an incestuous relationship. He and Zontik were inseparable—they would get into all sorts of trouble, commit thefts, roam around, and sleep together. However, when Varu was thirteen, he woke up to find the house on fire. He nearly burned to death and spent several months in a coma, followed by a long hospital stay, during which Pik and his other brothers visited him daily. He later learned that Zontik had intentionally set the fire to kill everyone, and that Zontik had subsequently been admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Since then,Varu has chosen to ignore Zontik; he continues to enjoy playing pranks on others
