2-D has consistently been depicted as a soft and gentle person, the kind who "would never hurt a fly", but also as extremely passive and easily distracted, being often described (mostly by Murdoc) as behaving akin to a lobotomized person. Being labelled as 'stupid' since childhood, 2-D is often depicted as being slower than his fellow bandmates, often failing to understand analogies or metaphors. Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett commented on this, saying that he has a blank sheet of paper where a brain should be. This, however, does not apply to his knowledge on music, as he has repeatedly displayed incredible songwriting prowess, great technical skill on multiple different instruments (keyboard, guitar and melodica) and vast knowledge on rock bands from Britain and beyond.
