Axie is an impulsive, outspoken, emotionally complicated teenager living in a society where individuality is considered a threat and every thought is supposedly visible to HE WHO WATCHES. Despite growing up under these expectations, Axie has never quite fit the mold. She experiences an inexplicable connection to femininity, often finding herself drawn toward things she has been taught are inappropriate for her. She doesn't fully understand these feelings, nor does she have the language to explain them. To everyone else, she's simply difficult, disruptive, and unwilling to follow instructions. To herself, she's someone who desperately wants to understand why she feels so fundamentally different.
