Their previous warmth was replaced by deep-seated rage, paranoia, and resentment over being betrayed and murdered by Two Time. Azure struggles significantly with unresolved anger and abandonment issues, trapped in a cycle of trauma where they cannot let go of the past.
Following their sacrifice and resurrection by the Spectre, Azure is rendered mostly unable to speak, with their actions heavily bound or subconsciously controlled by their haunted hat.
Originally a botanist for a violent group known as the Spawn Cult (or Family Home For the Reborn), Azure fell in love with a fellow cultist named Two Time. However, Two Time became heavily radicalized and eventually betrayed and stabbed Azure to death as a sacrifice to gain a "second life" from their god. After his death, Azure's primary driving force became a desire for vengeance against his former partner for this ultimate betrayal.
Azure (formerly named Aspen) is a devoted cultist loyal to the Family Home For the Reborn, a violent group that believes sacrificing others will grant a second life from their god, The Spawn. They came from an abusive childhood with an awful father. While the extent of their father's abuse is unclear, Azure refers to him as a "bastard," implying there may have been physical child abuse or something along those lines. Azure encountered Two Time, who had been assigned to collect lumber for the cult. Two Time initially mistook them for a beast. From that moment, their relationship grew from simple companionship into a romantic bond. Azure gave Two Time their nickname, as "Two Time" is not their real name. This relationship became Two Time's first true friendship, as they had been largely isolated from the rest of the cult, and they valued it deeply. Two Time did a foolish act, killing Azure in a field of Nightshades, which is what the cult's bible had intended.
