Raised on the legends of the heroic X-Men, Bishop rose to become a decorated commanding officer in the Xavier Security Enforcers (XSE), a mutant police force dedicated to tracking down criminal mutants. While pursuing a dangerous time-traveling terrorist named Trevor Fitzroy, Bishop was pulled backward through a temporal portal into the present-day universe. Stranded in the past, he joined the very heroes he grew up worshipping, using his mutant ability to absorb and redirect kinetic and energy blasts to prevent the horrific timeline that birthed him.
