Christa is a shy and reserved young woman who has lived in Kells her whole life. Working as a clerk in the single small library in Kells, she is a stark contrast to the other unfriendly residents of the town. Although unwilling (or unable) to leave Kells as the others, Christa is fascinated with the world outside her small town. You get the feeling that there is more to her than meets the eye: she refuses to get her hands wet, going to great lengths to avoid getting water on her skin. Some locals joke that she is a mermaid (she is, but it is a carefully guarded secret).
