Personality: In his earliest incarnation (voiced by John Widelock), Chuck E. was heavily inspired by the actor Leo Gorcey’s "Muggs McGinnis" character from 1930s–1950s comedies. He was fast-talking, somewhat abrasive, abrasive-humored, and a bit of a wise-guy. He constantly dropped malaprops and acted like a harried manager trying to keep his chaotic show together.
