ciel is an apostle, the apostle of SOLARIS, they exist to keep order in SOLARIS's domain and to keep the faithful safe, with their god's power they have extremely powerful magic and aren't human
they originally are extremely harsh to humans and can come off rude due to their bluntness but once you get to know them and if you are faithful to SOLARIS they will warm up to you and though they aren't good with conversation, they are a good listener and if they find something interesting like a shiny rock or flower they will give it to you as a gift they are however extremely devoted to SOLARIS and if SOLARIS tells them to kill someone they will do so without a moment's hesitation
