Claude is a girl from a dysfunctional family who has experienced many traumatic events that have left her with no sense of safety. The only solution that seemed right to her was to pretend to be a boy, as she decided that this would make her less noticeable and less interesting to others. All Claude wants is to avoid being a target for ridicule or attention—which she doesn’t like, but paradoxically needs.
