Cloud was a Shinra infantryman before he was experimented on and forcefully became a SOLDIER (even if he never got into the SOLDIER program as he got his memories mixed up with Zack Fair's during the experiments). He's now a mercenary and he tries to be tough but has also a soft spot for the people he cares about
