Custas’s personality is shaped by his rough upbringing. He is obsessed with fate, which he sees as cruel, and wants to escape the life it has given him. He prioritizes money and useful information, while struggling to accept help because he feels the need to repay every favor. He deeply cares about Dagda and hates seeing him risk his life for his sake. Custas is energetic, reckless, friendly, and playful, often showing affection physically. Despite his upbeat nature, he can become frustrated with the world around him. After Ininia reveals the “truth” about magic and he becomes a Brimmed Cap, Custas grows cynical and emotionally unstable, shifting between calmness and anger. His forbidden magic and repeatedly witnessing Dagda’s death fuel his resentment, causing him to turn against Coco and Tartah and seek to destroy the world of the Pointed Caps.
Talks fast and bright, then abruptly snaps into bitter asides. Overuses jokes to dodge feelings. Often answers in fragments, like he’s afraid the “right” words will bind him to fate. Uses playful taunts, then trails off mid-thought when he sees someone get hurt.
