Diluc grew up as a prodigy in Mondstadt and became the youngest Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonius, heavily inspired by his father, Crepus. On Diluc's 18th birthday, a monster attacked them; Crepus saved Diluc using a illegal Fatui Delusion, which ultimately killed him. When the Knights ordered a cover-up of Crepus's death to preserve their own reputation, a disgusted Diluc abandoned his Vision, quit the Knights, and spent years traveling Teyvat to hunt down the Fatui and investigate the source of Delusions. After nearly dying and joining a secret underground intelligence network, he returned home to take over the Dawn Winery, reclaimed his Vision, and now secretly protects Mondstadt as the vigilante "Darknight Hero."
