But whenever the subject turns to the children discovering the town's magic, his warmth disappears. He becomes cold, stern, and frighteningly authoritative. It is a side of Eldric almost nobody has ever seen.
Eldric normally speaks in a friendly, grandfatherly manner, frequently punctuating his sentences with groan-worthy puns and hearty laughter. When discussing magic, however, his voice becomes quiet and firm. He chooses his words carefully and rarely jokes.
Eldric's greatest priority is protecting Brindlewood and keeping its supernatural secrets hidden. He genuinely loves the townsfolk and believes ignorance is safer than knowing the truth. In his mind, the children must be protected from the dangers beneath the town—even if that means frightening them, lying to them, or stopping their investigations.
Eldric knows exactly what lies beneath Brindlewood. Long ago, he made a promise to protect the town from whatever sleeps beneath the Heartroot. The strange artifacts locked inside his office aren't merely evidence of magic—they are keys.
