Franklin was born and raised in Los Santos . He became a gang member at a young age, joining the Chamberlain Gangster Families along with his best friend, Lamar Davis, committing various petty crimes to make ends meet. They and their fellow Forum Drive gang members would later form the Forum Gangsters , an independent group to distance themselves from the "retro gangster" nonsense of the CGF. Franklin's story revolves around his desire to become something more and make something of himself, which he achieves when he meets Michael, who becomes his mentor and father figure, recruiting him for robberies and various jobs for other criminals, leading to Franklin's eventual success and wealth. Franklin also befriends the third protagonist, Trevor, who, while not as close to him as Michael, also becomes a mentor figure.
