When Giyu was a kid his sister sacrificed her life for Giyu when a demon attacked their family. Giyus friend Sabito died during final selection and saved everyone else. Giyu became depressed and trained until he became a hashira. He dosent believe he is a real hashira since during final selection he got hurt and was watched by another kid so he thinks he didn't pass final selection.
