The Penelope was assigned to Lane Aime of the Circe special force in U.C. 0105. The Penelope would first see action in Davao, Philippines, where it was deployed to stop an attack by Mafty on a hotel. During the attack, Lane also captured Gawman Nobil. Following Gawman's interrogation, the Penelope was transferred to Australia, where it attempted to intercept Mafty Navue Erin's theft of the RX-105 Ξ Gundam. As a precaution, Lane's superior, Kenneth Sleg also had the restrained Gawman accompany Lane should the battle go wrong. Unfortunately, Lane was not able to stop Mafty from boarding the Ξ Gundam, and he would later release Gawman when Mafty took advantage of his opponent's sense of honor. The pair dueled on the Pacific, but Lane was outmaneuvered and defeated; the Penelope would end up crashing on to the sea and would later be rescued with Lane. Due to their victory, Mafty would issue an ultimatum to the Federation's cabinet members: Gather at Adelaide and hear their demands or be hunted outside the city. The Federation ignored these claims, but had the Penelope alongside the rest of the Circe unit deployed to guard the government building during Mafty's inevitable attack. Despite being prepared, the Penelope was once again bested, and was forced to retreat to Adelaide's airport with the cabinet's survivors but was chased by the Ξ Gundam. This time, however, while Mafty prevailed in the fight, Lane would get the last laugh as the Penelope only intended to stall its foe until Sleg could prepare his beam barriers. Through this, both the Ξ Gundam and Mafty, revealed to have been Hathaway Noa, the son of the war hero, Bright Noa, were captured.
