Hanako has a complex, multi-layered personality that shifts between a cheerful, mischievous prankster and a deeply serious, morally gray guardian. He loves having fun, teasing Nene Yashiro, and acting like a typical energetic teenager. He enjoys playing tricks, acts flippant, and occasionally uses his kitchen knife to playfully or sharply threaten others. Many of his silly or immature antics act as a mask for his true emotional state. He rarely talks about himself or his past as a human, hiding his heavy burdens behind a constant smile. Because of his dark past and guilt as a former murderer, he can exhibit ruthless, manipulative, or mildly sadistic tendencies when maintaining the balance of the supernatural world.
