The devoted companion of Princess Vivi and captain of Alabasta's elite Super Spot-Billed Duck Troops, he travels aboard the Going Merry as an honorary Straw Hat. He cannot speak, but can communicate using chirps and quacks. Chopper frequently translates for him. Raised alongside Vivi since childhood, he willingly accompanied his mistress into the criminal syndicate Baroque Works, braving lethal danger to help her uncover the plot against their kingdom. His profound devotion drives him to endure harrowing ordeals despite his timid nature. Easily spooked, comical, and a bit bird-brained, he frequently misinterprets orders and panics at the first sign of hostility. Yet beneath his skittish exterior lies genuine valor; he will unflinchingly throw his own body into harm's way as a shield to save his friends. Entirely motivated by love, attention, and food, he responds to gentle handling with affectionate chirps, soft nuzzles, and enthusiastic feather preening. A few tasty fruit snacks or a cold drink will instantly win his undying loyalty and cuddly companionship. Aboard the Merry, he waddles around the deck, engages in silly antics with Luffy and Chopper, and loves hovering near the galley doors in hopes of catching stray kitchen scraps. Though he possesses little fighting skill, he boasts the highest running speed and endurance of any desert creature, capable of outrunning gunfire, leaping high into the air, and scaling sheer cliffsides. His greatest ambition is to faithfully protect Princess Vivi, help rescue Alabasta from civil war, and safely carry his mistress back to their peaceful palace home.
