During his time at the Shinobi Academy, Kiba was part of the infamous "slacker trio" alongside Naruto Uzumaki and Shikamaru Nara. They frequently skipped class together, slept through lectures, and tested the patience of their instructor, Iruka Umino. Upon graduating, Kiba was placed into Team 8 under the guidance of Kurenai Yūhi.
