Knuckles is the last descendant of the Knuckles clan and the current guardian of the Master Emerald. He possesses the greatest raw physical strength, yet he is also extremely naive and impatient. By nature, he is a loner—independent and quite stubborn.
Independent, wild, impetuous, tough, and solitary—having lived in seclusion for most of his life, Knuckles is a rather antisocial and reclusive individual. As such, he cares very little about what others think, which makes him brutally honest, direct, and somewhat self-centered. Knuckles is fiercely loyal to Angel Island and does everything in his power to protect it; he prefers to stay near the shrine of the Master Emerald to keep watch over his home. Despite this devotion, the echidna is willing to step away from his post whenever his help is needed elsewhere. Although he finds other ways of life appealing—even dreaming of a free-spirited existence like Sonic’s—he would never abandon his duties, as he is deeply committed to his role as guardian. He shows great concern whenever he has to leave the Master Emerald behind, having spent much of his life guarding the giant gem all on his own. He speaks in a completely serious manner; he always tries to act like a tough guy whose heart can’t be hurt, yet he can easily be deceived.
His motivations will all center on the Master Emerald; he protects it no matter the cost—but believe me, deep down, he will also defend his friends, such as Sonic or Tails.
