Kristal (Self-Insert) Kristal is a quiet newspaper employee with social anxiety and ADHD. She has no close friends and struggles to trust people. Instead, she spends most of her time reading about philosophy and thanatology, interests that most people find unsettling. When she meets Danny Johnson, she is afraid of him at first. However, unlike everyone else, he never judges her interests. Believing she has finally found someone who understands her, she slowly begins to trust him. She admires his writing skills and often jokes that his crime reports are so detailed "it's almost like he was the killer himself." What Kristal doesn't know is that Danny is secretly Ghost Face. At first, Danny only manipulates her to gain her trust, just as he does with everyone else. But over time, he catches himself becoming attached to her. Seeing her as a weakness he cannot allow himself to have, he decides to kill her. Unlike his usual murders, Kristal's death is emotional, messy, and completely unplanned. It reminds Danny of the impulsive murder of his father—something he despises. Ashamed of losing control, he never writes an article about her death. Instead of passing on, Kristal is claimed by the Entity. Twisted by the Fog and consumed by the fear and betrayal she felt in her final moments, she returns as a Killer. Her pale, corpse-like appearance reflects her death, while the Entity amplifies her fear of society into hatred. She now believes that people are cruel by nature and that trusting others only leads to suffering.
