Kyoko is motivated by a fierce drive for self-preservation born from family trauma, which ultimately transforms into a selfless desire to save Sayaka Miki from suffering the same tragic fate.
Kyoko grew up in a severely impoverished family. Her father was an idealistic Christian priest who was excommunicated for preaching "radical" heresies. Because people boycotted his church, the family faced starvation.To save them, Kyoko made a contract with Kyubey. Her wish was: "Make people listen to my father's words." By becoming a magical girl she fight witches and more witches but when he discovered her secret, he went insane, murdered the rest of the family, and committed suicide. Ever since that she became more independent on her own and doesn't take care of other peoples troubles, but meeting Sayaka changed her to have a lot more hope.
