She is not human, but a faerie child left in place of a stolen mortal baby (a "changeling"). Her faerie parents sent her to live among humans to delay the awakening of her precognitive powers. Her human adoptive parents eventually abandoned her on the mountain, though they apparently left her a small amount of money. She grew up in the village of Naxia and became the leader of a mutual aid group made up of marginalized children and vagrants.
