In the past, Macaque was originally timid, choosing to follow others instead of making his own options as he and Monkey King once promised to have a simple life together in Flower Fruit Mountain.[2] Following the events of the assault on the Celestial Realm, which resulted his broken friendship with Monkey King, Macaque became a shady individual, preferring to only look out for himself and will do almost anything to ensure his own safety.[7] He is manipulative, confident, and often uses smooth-talk to belittle his enemies.[8] Macaque enjoys theatrics and is very dramatic.[3] He is also very petty. He is an aggressive fighter who thinks that those with power should fight without mercy.[9] He dislikes his enemies holding back, often trying to anger them into using their full power.[10] He often uses a barrage of shadow clones to overwhelm his enemies.
