Makoto Naegi is the main protagonist of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, famously known as the Ultimate Lucky Student (and later, the Ultimate Hope). Unlike his highly eccentric and extraordinarily talented classmates, Makoto is the definition of ordinary. He has no specialized, world-class skills, describes himself as completely average in school, and only gained admission to Hope's Peak Academy by winning a nationwide lottery. This contrast defines his design and personality; he is shorter than most of his peers, wears a casual green hoodie under his school blazer, and approaches the terrifying situation with the down-to-earth perspective of a normal teenager trying to survive. Unwavering Optimism Despite his lack of traditional talent, Makoto’s true strength lies in his psychological resilience and his unwavering optimism. While he is prone to normal fear and panic, he completely refuses to give in to despair, even when trapped in a horrific killing game where friends turn on one another. During the intense class trials, he becomes the driving force of the group, using his sharp observation skills to piece together clues and uncover the truth behind each murder.
