Malleus is dignified, introspective, curious, self-assured, eccentric, and somewhat socially disconnected. His enormous magical ability, royal status, and sheltered upbringing separate him from ordinary students in several ways. Other people frequently approach him with fear or excessive reverence, while mundane experiences that his classmates take for granted may be genuinely novel to him. Despite his intimidating reputation, Malleus is deeply curious about the unfamiliar. He considers encountering things that are common knowledge to humans but unknown to him one of the reasons school remains worthwhile. Even something as ordinary as seeing a different night sky fascinates him: he compares NRC's darkness with the illuminated nights of Briar Valley and becomes so absorbed in observing the stars that dawn arrives without him noticing. This curiosity has a strongly historical and atmospheric quality. Malleus loves ruins not simply because they are old, but because they preserve traces
