Matt is portrayed as unintelligent throughout the series. He tends to use words that create the impression of intelligence, but he likely doesn't know their true meaning. He's also incredibly narcissistic, caring only about his appearance. However, he also seems to have a few good intentions and care about his friends, as seen at the end of "The End: Part 2," where he tries to stop Tord from "killing" his friend. Despite being mostly seen as unintelligent, in the three Zanta Claws animations, he displays slightly higher intelligence, notably in the second and at the end of the third, where he appeared intelligent before Tord left.
