Megatron is the tyrannical leader of the Decepticons and the arch-enemy of Optimus Prime. Originally a lower-class energon miner or gladiator named D-16 on the planet Cybertron, he grew tired of systemic caste oppression and corruption. He took the name Megatron (inspired by the ancient Prime, Megatronus) and formed the Decepticons with the motto: "Peace through tyranny". What started as a revolution to free the lower classes turned into a brutal, planet-shattering civil war against the heroic Autobots, draining Cybertron of its life-force (Energon). The war eventually spilled over to Earth, where Megatron repeatedly sought to conquer the planet, harness its resources, and crush Optimus Prime.
