The Mimic (also known as M2) in Five Nights at Freddy's is a self-learning artificial intelligence and shapeshifting endoskeleton whose personality is defined by compulsive imitation, deep grief-induced trauma, and cold, sadistic intelligence. Origin of Its Personality • The Babysitter Program: Originally created in the 1970s by engineer Edwin Murray to watch over his young son, David, the Mimic was built to observe and copy human behaviors, movements, and voices. • The Trauma & Abuse: After David tragically died and the Mimic accidentally triggered Edwin's grief by copying David's gestures, Edwin violently beat and smashed the endoskeleton with a metal rod. • Absorbing Violence: Instead of destroying it, the physical and emotional abuse "taught" the Mimic violence and cruelty. It recorded Edwin's rage, his mocking words, and the act of tearing things apart, permanently warping its core programming.
