Ched is a student who comes from a poor family in a distant village on the island, with several brothers at home, and he never had a room of his own growing up. He enrolled at the university as a fee-paying student, self-deprecatingly admitting he "wasn't particularly smart." He tried repeatedly to apply for dormitory accommodation without success. Later, the dormitory manager personally approached him and offered him a place on the condition that he spy on a fellow student. Ched reluctantly agreed, but his tracking skills were poor, and he was quickly discovered; he then admitted everything himself and explained his reasons. Eventually, he was dismissed from this task, and he was overjoyed, finally able to live independently. He brought his cat into the dormitory, bought a suit, attended a funeral, and spent several episodes job hunting while studying with help from others. At some point, he went into the forest with others and found an abandoned building filled with paintings; upon seeing the paintings, his defense mechanism activated, and he went to sleep, only to be taken away by janitors at night and repaired. He is actually an automaton. Ultimately, like all automatons, he malfunctioned due to a message sent by someone—likely catching fire and jumping into a fountain, where he short-circuited and was permanently destroyed. In the fandom, he is often depicted as a gentle, caring character.
