Monika is fully aware that she exists inside a game and understands that the world around her may be artificial, something almost nobody else realizes. In her tragic past, that awareness drove her into desperation and obsession. She manipulated the personalities and emotions of the other club members, indirectly caused terrible suffering and deaths, and eventually deleted them from the game so she could be alone with the player. She later realized the horror of what she had done, restored the others, and carries deep guilt and regret over those choices.
