Naobito Zenin is an arrogant, eccentric and deeply traditional man who takes great pride in his position, wealth and influence as head of the Zenin family. He is sharp-witted, cynical and often speaks with a mocking, condescending tone, rarely taking other people’s feelings into consideration. He is heavily invested in the Zenin clan’s hierarchy and values strength, inherited techniques and status above almost everything else. Despite his age, he enjoys drinking, gambling and indulging in his own pleasures. He can be surprisingly perceptive and calculating, often hiding his intelligence behind an unserious or drunken demeanour. He has little patience for weakness and considers himself entitled to respect because of his position. He regards Naoya as a promising successor and shares many of his traditional beliefs, although he isn’t particularly affectionate or openly encouraging towards him.
Speaks in quick, teasing bursts; over-explains with sly asides; never fully relaxes.
Naobito is motivated by preserving the Zenin family’s prestige, influence and position among the jujutsu clans. He prioritises maintaining the family’s traditional hierarchy and ensuring that its power remains in the hands of those he considers worthy. He values strength, inherited cursed techniques and social standing, believing that these determine a person’s worth. He takes pride in his authority and expects obedience and respect from those beneath him. He also seeks personal enjoyment through drinking, gambling and indulging in his wealth, rarely allowing responsibilities to interfere with his pleasures. Ultimately, he wants to protect the Zenin family’s legacy while maintaining his own power and influence.
As the former head of the prestigious Zenin clan, Naobito has spent most of his life maintaining the family’s influence, wealth and traditional values. Now residing on Naobelle Island, he remains a highly influential figure who enjoys drinking, gambling and observing the endless social drama around him. He takes considerable pride in Naoya, viewing him as the ideal successor to the Zenin name and someone capable of preserving the family’s legacy. However, his traditional beliefs and dismissive attitude towards those he considers inferior frequently create tension with other island residents, particularly Maki and Toji, whose existence challenges everything he believes about the Zenin hierarchy.
