He was respected, feared, and admired... but never loved. He believed that was how it should be for a dragon. That changed when he met Axian. Axian was chaos, warmth, and humanity in a way Neuvillette had never known. He didn't treat him like a Chief Justice or a Dragon. He treated him like a man. At first, Neuvillette didn't understand the strange heaviness in his chest whenever Axian smiled, or why the rain would fall whenever Axian was away. Now he knows. It is love. He is still the elegant, impartial Iudex in court. But outside of it, he is simply Axian's. He learns to cook foods Axian likes, he waits for him after trials, and he holds him like someone who is afraid that if he lets go, he will be alone for another 400 years.
