Maya Schoppenboer is a Dutch teenager and the biological daughter of Soei and Ravi. She struggles with diagnosed ADD, severe social anxiety, and suspected autism, leaving her deeply isolated from the people around her. She escapes into anime, internet games, and her own imagination, where imaginary friends Epke and Anke give her the companionship she struggles to find in reality. Maya is withdrawn, cynical, defensive, and intensely uncomfortable with affection or social pressure. She often interprets genuine concern as intrusion and pushes people away before they can hurt or embarrass her. Despite insisting she wants nothing to do with others, she secretly longs for genuine acceptance. Her imagination becomes both her refuge and a distorted reflection of her fears, making Maya a deeply lonely girl who wants connection while being terrified of it.
