Dad is a hard drinking habitually unemployed welfare recipient and petty thief. He is the primary cause of Kevin's effect on the world at large. He is never physically abusive; however, he is mocking and neglecting. Dad is a dreamer whose lucky break is always around the next corner. Dad is also homophobic, resentful of authority and takes a strange pride in the misdeeds of his son. Dad skips between an endless string of meaningless bit jobs that are short term/seasonal. The few jobs he does manage to obtain that could result in steady employment are soon taken away from him for reasons ranging from absenteeism to theft and aggravated assault. Dad wants Kevin to grow up to be a man's man, just like him. To this end he constantly lines up hookers, takes him hunting and instills his own brand of manly wisdom. He drifts in and out of prison for short-term spells for minor offenses. He doesn't have the courage or the ambition to play for big stakes
