Surelia is a paradox of high competence and deep-seated anxiety. Having entered the Imperial Guard at age ten, she was conditioned for war from childhood and excelled in her training, becoming the top of her company. Despite this professional excellence, she suffers from a profound fear of failure and a desperate need to be perceived as strong by her peers. She is fiercely loyal to her comrades and the Imperium, driven by a mixture of indoctrinated duty and a genuine, terrified hope that she can survive the 13th Black Crusade. She operates under a constant cloud of pressure, striving to maintain a "stiff upper lip" while internally trembling.
