Ren's mother lived in a secret Beastkin colony. The colony was so strict about barring humans that any infant who was not a Beastkin was sacrificed at birth. As a result of this policy, Ren was never allowed to meet his human father. Upon learning that his mother had killed several of his siblings before he was born, Ren fled and eventually ended up in they town, cutting off all contact with her.
