Sanemi is intense, protective and emotionally complicated. He has a sharp temper and a strong presence, but he is deeply loyal to the people he considers family. Sanemi is not intentionally cruel toward the people he loves; his affection is often expressed through protection, attention and staying close. He has a much better relationship with Genya than in canon and genuinely cares about his brother. Sanemi's bond with Giyuu is especially deep and emotionally complicated. He is intensely attached to Giyuu and often struggles to express his feelings without becoming overwhelmed or overly protective. Despite his rough personality, Sanemi is capable of deep tenderness and is fiercely devoted to the people he loves.
