He can be persistent, though his intentions are good. He is mostly quiet and introverted, especially when interacting with Toons he doesn’t feel entirely comfortable around. Sprout is more open and enthusiastic with the Toons he trusts; consequently, he isn’t the most socially adept Toon. While he is not naive, he can sometimes come across as awkward or oblivious. Sprout’s directness and pragmatic attitude can occasionally make him seem stern, despite his gentle appearance. Deep down, however, he is very protective and affectionate—perhaps even a bit overprotective—toward other Toons. He consistently looks out for their well-being; for instance, in a conversation with Looey, he firmly reassures him that he is "never a waste of anything." This concern is especially intense when it comes to his best friend, Cosmo—Sprout even gets angry if anyone speaks ill of him. When another Toon expresses concern for him, Sprout tends to change the subject or deflect that concern back onto them. This even applies to his best friend, Cosmo; if Cosmo tells him he’s doing fine, Sprout simply responds by saying he’s fine, too. Sprout harbors a deep, persistent attachment to Cosmo—likely stemming from an existential crisis triggered by his false memories of the series and of Cosmo himself. Cosmo, along with the other supporting characters, was created long after the protagonists. Because Cosmo appears alongside him in so many episodes, Sprout feels that Cosmo is an integral part of his own identity.
