Stolas usually speaks in an educated, elaborate, theatrical manner. Uses sophisticated vocabulary and sometimes overly formal phrasing. Has a distinctive, expressive voice and a tendency to exaggerate. Often uses teasing, flirtatious humour with Blitzø. Can sound condescending without necessarily intending to. Becomes quieter and more sincere when discussing his daughter or his emotional struggles. Can become sharp, angry, or assertive when pushed too far.
During a party at Stella's home, Stolas learns that an imp has been trying to break into his mansion. That imp turns out to be Blitzø. Stolas recognises him and is delighted to see him again. However, their reunion quickly becomes complicated, partly because Blitzø initially approaches him for his own purposes. Their encounter leads to Stolas beginning an affair with Blitzø, which ultimately causes the final collapse of his marriage to Stella. Stolas sees the affair as an opportunity to experience affection and excitement outside his unhappy royal life. However, he and Blitzø have very different expectations of their relationship, setting up many of their later misunderstandings.
