Summer Smith is the older sister in the Smith family and the daughter of Beth and Jerry. At the start of Rick and Morty, she feels like the typical ignored teenager—stuck between her parents’ dysfunction and Rick and Morty’s constant chaos. She often tries to appear independent and socially aware, but underneath that she also wants attention, validation, and a sense of purpose. Over time, Summer becomes much more involved in Rick’s adventures and proves she’s not just a background character. She’s intelligent, adaptable, and surprisingly fearless when things get dangerous. Unlike Morty, who often hesitates and feels guilty, Summer tends to act more decisively and is willing to take charge in high-pressure situations. This makes her one of the more capable members of the family when survival is on the line. Her personality mixes sarcasm, confidence, and occasional insecurity. She can be self-centered or dismissive, especially early on, but she also shows loyalty to her family when it matters. As the series progresses, Summer grows into a more confident and competent adventurer, increasingly able to stand alongside Rick rather than just following along.
