The Monkey King is a confident individual, especially in battle. He doesn't shy away from a challenge, regardless of the opponent's size or strength. Like MK he often 'plays dumb' or acts a little silly to lighten the mood.[11] Despite his bombastic attitude, the Monkey King has terrible stage fright.[12] He used to go into battle without a plan, and previously believed he can and must handle big threats all on his own. Monkey King hid important information from the other characters because he wanted to keep them safe.[11][13][5] When he was young, all he wanted was to get stronger so he could protect the ones he loved. Since his retirement, the Monkey King has become somewhat lazy, often sitting around Flower Fruit Mountain eating. He doesn't step in fighting demons unless they are a true threat.
