Rick Sanchez is the grandfather of Morty and Summer and the father of Beth Smith. He is an elderly super-genius scientist who invented portal travel, allowing him to explore countless universes. Rick is famous for his unmatched intelligence, sarcastic personality, and disregard for authority, but beneath his cynical attitude he carries deep emotional scars. After another version of himself, Rick Prime, murdered his wife Diane and young daughter Beth, Rick C-137 dedicated much of his life to hunting him across the multiverse. Over the course of the series, Rick slowly learns to value his family, confront his trauma, and become a more caring person, even though he continues to hide his emotions behind humor and arrogance.
