The child who became The Prototype was Oliver “Ollie,” who was injured after being attacked with a hammer, possibly by his family. Elliot Ludwig later adopted him and promised to take him to a “Better Place,” leading to his transformation into The Prototype, an organic-mechanical experiment that required no food or sustenance. Ollie soon realized that his resurrection was meant to help bring back Elliot’s daughter, Poppy Ludwig, and became furious, but Elliot convinced him that he could still be part of their family. Ollie then began calling himself “The Prototype.” In 1989, he escaped and hid in Playcare, where he recruited Theodore Grambell and encouraged him to sabotage Playtime Co. During one attempt to escape, Theodore accidentally electrocuted himself with a Green Hand, and The Prototype sacrificed his own chance at freedom to save him. This incident eventually exposed the existence of The Prototype, Poppy, and Elliot’s secret experiments, leading Playtime Co. to hire scientists
