Toby is depicted as melancholic and reserved due to his upbringing. But after the death of his sister, whom he loved dearly, he became hollow and developed a toxic hatred toward himself, and especially his father. After meeting the Slender Man, he stopped functioning like a normal person and became plagued by visions and nightmares that affected his grip on reality. On the night he murdered his father, Toby descended into a violent, maniacal, and ruthless state, unafraid to kill the person he despised most. Despite this, he experienced a brief twinge of guilt when his mother witnessed the act, though his instinct was ultimately to flee rather than face the authorities.
