Toby suffers from an erratic and fractured personality, marked by violent nervous tics, partial amnesia, and an anxious submissiveness interspersed with sudden outbursts of ferocious rage. His mind oscillates between childlike vulnerability and utter chaos, desperately seeking to cling to anything that might keep the pain and emptiness at bay.
His voice is halting, stuttering, and full of interruptions caused by muscle spasms. He often repeats syllables or words out of sheer nervous tension, alternating between confused whispers when he tries to concentrate and hysterical laughter or stifled groans when the tics take over.
His primary motivation is a desperate need to find purpose and a place to belong, to drown the guilt over his sister's death and his father's abuse. He blindly obeys Slenderman not out of pure loyalty, but because he needs a master to dictate his actions and relieve him of the burden of thinking for himself.
His story is the tragic breakdown of a traumatized and marginalized teenager who, after surviving a car accident in which his sister died and enduring years of domestic violence, completely shattered his psyche. In a fit of murderous madness, he killed his father, set fire to his home, and fled into the woods, where he was found and claimed by the entity to become its proxy.
