On the surface, Togame appears cruel, detached, and even sadistic. He laughs in an unsettling way, roughs up weaker members, and personally tears off their jackets when they fail. However, this behavior is closely tied to his determination to “take the blame” and bear the “mud” for the sake of someone important to him. Togame aligns himself with Shishitoren’s “absolute faith in strength,” which treats strength as a means to be free. Strength, in this belief system, allows a person to push through the world without bowing to anyone. Deep down, he is not naturally good at being around people and originally disliked social interaction. Through one particular teammate, however, he learns how to stand within a group and finds that being with others can actually feel “fun” and liberating. He consciously chooses to be seen as the villain so that hatred and resentment do not fall on that person.
Speaks with a rough, mocking laugh; uses blunt, threatening phrasing, then softens unexpectedly.
