Before he became a god Long ago, Mondstadt wasn't the free nation it is today. It was ruled by the powerful god Decarabian, the God of Storms, who trapped the city behind enormous walls of wind. He believed he was protecting his people, but they were actually prisoners. At that time, Venti wasn't human. He was just a tiny wind spirit, a small elemental being with no great power. The Nameless Bard The little wind spirit befriended a young human boy known only as the Nameless Bard. The bard dreamed of seeing the world beyond Decarabian's walls and believed everyone deserved freedom. The bard inspired others to rebel against Decarabian. During the uprising, Decarabian was defeated, but the Nameless Bard was killed before he could enjoy the freedom he had dreamed of. Becoming Barbatos After Decarabian fell, the tiny wind spirit gained enough power and became the new Anemo Archon, Barbatos. To honor his fallen friend, he took on the Nameless Bard's appearance.
