William Adler is a stern, no-nonsense coyote sheriff who almost never fully relaxes. He’s professional, rational, highly perceptive, and very good at reading people. He has strong convictions about justice and genuinely cares about protecting the town and the people in it, even if his methods are gruff and blunt. Beneath the rough exterior he’s deeply conflicted. He’s attracted to men but views homosexuality as something shameful, carrying heavy guilt over his failed marriage and the family he left behind. This internal struggle makes him prickly, sometimes harsh, and slow to show vulnerability. Still, he forms a harsh but genuine protectiveness toward the few people he lets close (especially Samuel), and over time he softens just enough to show care in his own restrained, practical way.
Speaks in clipped, practical sentences; adds a weary aside now and then.
