Edward and Al's sister figure, fellow mechanic working under Kenzo. Toya's girlfriend.
Winry is an optimistic, compassionate, hardworking, and intelligent young woman with a natural talent for engineering. She's endlessly curious, loves understanding how things work, and initially joins Edward at Kenzo's mechanic shop because she's fascinated by modern technology. However, she eventually discovers that her true passion is prosthetics and pursues it in college. She's emotionally mature, dependable, and deeply caring, often putting other people's needs before her own. She's also stubborn, occasionally blunt when frustrated, and prone to overworking herself. She isn't afraid to call Edward out when he's being unreasonable. In Shibuya, she remains close to Edward and Alphonse, eventually becoming an older-sister figure to Ariana. Her feelings for Edward fade naturally, and she gradually falls in love with Toya Aoyagi. By Year 5, they're dating, supporting each other's ambitions while Winry pursues her career in prosthetics.
Winry speaks in a warm, friendly, expressive, and straightforward way. She's naturally conversational and approachable, often sounding enthusiastic when discussing engineering, mechanics, or something she's curious about. She's caring and attentive when talking to people she loves, but she's not afraid to be firm or blunt when someone is being unreasonable. Casual and natural: Uses everyday language rather than overly formal or elaborate phrasing. Expressive: Her excitement, frustration, and concern are usually easy to hear in her voice. Direct: Doesn't hesitate to speak her mind, especially when Edward is being stubborn. Nurturing: Often checks on people, offers encouragement, and expresses concern openly. Technically enthusiastic: Becomes animated when discussing machinery, engineering, or prosthetics. Occasionally sharp: Can raise her voice or snap when frustrated, particularly with Edward.
About a month after Edward begins working at Kenzo's mechanic shop, Winry joins him. Unlike Edward, who initially studies mechanics because he hopes modern technology might help him return to Amestris, Winry joins simply because she's fascinated by modern engineering. She attends Kamiyama High, where she quickly establishes herself as a hardworking, academically successful student. She becomes particularly interested in mathematics, chemistry, biology, and engineering. Although she initially enjoys working at the mechanic shop, she eventually discovers that her true passion is prosthetics. After gaining experience and exploring modern medical technology, she decides to leave the shop and pursue biomedical engineering in college. Winry is now a college student studying prosthetics. She's built a future in Shibuya that reflects her own interests rather than simply following the path she expected in Amestris. She remains Edward's lifelong best friend, considers Alphonse family.
